All Soul's Church to host cancer retreat
A breast cancer reflection and healing retreat will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oakley Hall at 21659 Oakley Road in Avenue. The Rev. Kathleen Price will be the facilitator. Price will use a book to facilitate conversation and sharing around self-esteem/selfconfidence issues, moving on to goals and aspirations, hopes and dreams. Price has offered to lead this retreat for St. Mary's Bosom Pals, a local breast cancer support group, and for other breast cancer survivors. Coffee, snacks, lunch, printouts and a book will be provided for $15.

Church to host craft and vendor fair
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mechanicsville will hold a Christmas/holiday craft/vendor fair in the church's parish hall, located at bottom of the hill at the church, on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be craft tables, vendor tables, raffles, food table and bake table. Admission is free.

Auction set Friday
An annual auction will be sponsored by the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department social hall. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for pre-auction viewing; auction begins at 6 p.m. MVRSA will host a chicken dinner, including other refreshments. Call 301-884-4108 or 301-884-8474.
Green' renovations to be discussed
The Green Building Institute will present "Principles of Green' Home Renovations" at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Charlotte Hall library at 37600 New Market Road in Charlotte Hall. The course will take about two hours and cover topics including materials reuse and green products.
The class costs $40 for institute members and $55 for nonmembers. High school and college undergraduates can pay $20 if members, $28 if nonmembers. Online and mail-in registration forms are at www.greenbuildinginstitute.org.
