Russell A. "Skip" Burch Sr., 80, of Waldorf died Nov. 17, 2009, at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Burch was a self-employed cemetery monument dealer for 28 years. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War and was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with four bronze stars. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waldorf, the VFW Post in Waldorf and American Legion Edwin Adams Post 293. He enjoyed playing cards.
Born Aug. 30, 1929, in Waldorf, he was the son of the late Clarence Vernon Burch and the late Hattie Marguerite Roberts Burch.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence "Dick" Burch, James "Cotton" Burch and Roy "Buddy" Burch.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Ann Buckler Burch; daughter, Joyce Brenda and her husband, John McConnell Jr. of La Plata; sons, Russell A. Jr. and his wife, Margie Burch of White Plains, George Burch of Waldorf, James "Tinyboy" Burch of Waldorf, Philip E. and his wife, Kathleen Burch of Hughesville and Robert L. and his wife, Jody Burch of Waldorf; brother, Joseph Burch of Waldorf; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Nov. 20 at Raymond Funeral Service, La Plata, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 21. The Rev. Aaron Rummage will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Paul's, Piney Church Cemetery, Waldorf.
Pallbearers will be Mark, Cody, Brett, Russell III and Robert Burch Jr. and Jonathan McConnell.
