Fire safety at Mitchell

The La Plata Volunteer Fire Department visited Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School on Oct. 7 to help prekindergarten, kindergarten and first-grade students celebrate Fire Prevention Week. Students viewed a video on how to make fire preparedness plans in the home. The firefighters talked to students about fire safety, explained what their equipment was and how it is used, and demonstrated the stop, drop and roll procedure. Students were also given a tour of an emergency fire truck.
