The town of Chesapeake Beach voted to approve the amendment to its parking ordinance and to approve the issuance of municipal bonds at its council meeting last Thursday night.
The revisions to the parking ordinance also addressed abandoned and inoperable vehicles, tackling the issue of vehicles left untagged and in disrepair and creating fines for those who do not remove the vehicles and comply with the new ordinance. The amendment also included limiting parking within 20 feet when parking around stop signs at corners.
The concern with vehicles parking too close to corners was addressed by several town residents and council members at a public hearing on the ordinance. Residents stated that it not only made some narrow roads not passable, but was also an issue of safety as it made it impossible for safety vehicles to gain access to some residences.
"It's good news it was passed," said Town Administrator Jim Parent in an interview. The main thing is that it deals with abandoned vehicles around town, he said.
The new rules will be in effect starting Dec. 10.
Municipal bonds voted on, introduced
The town council voted to approve the issuance and sale of municipal bonds for upgrading water quality and to give the town the authority to issue to the Maryland Water Quality Financing Administration its general obligation bonds in aggregate principal amount not exceeding $1.56 million. The council approved an issuance and sale of bonds for $683,000 to be designated "Chesapeake Beach Water Quality Bond."
The town introduced an ordinance for the issuance and sale of bonds not to exceed $2.21 million for a new water storage tank at the Chesapeake Village subdivision. A public hearing is set for Dec. 17.
Contracts approved
The town awarded Absolute Quality Contractors of Prince Frederick a contract in the amount of $243,448 for an improvement project to the town's salt dome and storage yard.
The town approved two contracts from Calvert Pools and Underwater Construction for repairs to the Chesapeake Beach Water Park and town sidewalk. An $8,340 contract was approved to repair and replace a pool deck and a $6,300 contract was approved for sidewalk repairs.
Craft sale
Chesapeake Beach will host a holiday craft sale in the parking lot of the town hall from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. Space is available at no charge for those wanting to sell their holiday crafts. Prior to the craft sale, North Beach will be hosting the holiday parade starting at noon at the corner of Bay Avenue and First Street.
