Greater Waldorf Jaycees is a service organization for adults 21-41, dedicated to the principle of ‘‘Leadership Training through Community Service.” The Waldorf Jaycees are the most recognized and successful Jaycee chapter in the history of the United States Jaycees, according to a press release. In order to maintain its tradition of excellence, an infusion of new members is needed to carry on the efforts, which began in 1969.
There are no mandatory requirements and each individual determines how much they will participate. Participants may work on many senior citizen projects, youth projects, mentally and physically challenged projects or attend socials and make new friends. An orientation will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 28, which will be followed by the regular monthly membership meeting.
The ideal means of providing service to the community is for any individuals to do a little instead of a few individuals doing a lot, said the release.
The Jaycees also kicked off its ‘‘Toys for Tots” program on Nov. 1st. Last year with help, the Jaycees were able to insure that more than 1,000 Charles County children had a Christmas due to the overwhelming generosity of the citizens and businesses of the county, said a press release. This year there are more needy families and help is needed.
To donate a new unwrapped toy, have a ‘‘Toy Drop Box” at your place of business or to make a monetary donation to the program, call Joan at 301-645-4546 or 301-843-2233. Fundraising will be held at Wal-Mart and Sams Club through December.
Toys may also be dropped off at the Jaycee Community Center seven days a week. The center is at 3090 Crain Highway, Waldorf.
