Fourth and Fifth Districts Democratic Club of Charles County will hold its Christmas buffet Dec. 13 at Shymansky's Restaurant, Cobb Island.

Monday, Dec. 15

Charles County Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 in the county commissioners' meeting room in the county government building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata. Call 301-645-0540.

VanGO will conduct an information meeting to review possible service changes to the bus system at 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Jaycees center, 3090 Crain Highway, Waldorf. The meeting is an opportunity for the public to provide suggestions and feedback including route modifications which may include lunch and/or dinner breaks, modified Saturday service, fare increases and the modification of lower performing routes or business loops. Other meetings are planned at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 and 18 and 6 p.m. Dec. 18 at the La Plata library. Written comments will be accepted through Dec. 18. Wednesday, Dec. 17

Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland will meet Dec. 17 at the Jaycees center, 3090 Crain Highway, Waldorf. A reception with cash bar begins at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the full council meeting. Cost for dinner is $25. The meeting will feature a look forward to 2009 and the challenges and opportunities for the region from a federal, state and local governments' perspective. The meeting will also include election of officers and a new executive board, audit report and brief updates of the Regional Infrastructure Advisory Committee and the Veterans Regional Advisory Committees. Wednesday, Dec. 24

La Plata Town Hall will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. Trash normally picked up on Dec. 25 will be collected Dec. 24. For water and sewer emergencies, call 301-934-8421.

Indian Head Town Hall, public works and community affairs will be closed Dec. 25-26 for the Christmas holiday. No trash will be collected. In case of emergency with water and/or sewer call 301-743-2222.
