Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland will meet Dec. 17 at the Jaycees center, 3090 Crain Highway, Waldorf. A reception with cash bar begins at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the full council meeting. Cost for dinner is $25. The meeting will feature a look forward to 2009 and the challenges and opportunities for the region from federal, state and local governments' perspectives. The meeting will also include election of officers and a new executive board, audit report and brief updates of the Regional Infrastructure Advisory Committee and the Veterans Regional Advisory Committee. Thursday, Dec. 18

The Legal Aid Bureau will present a short overview of basic foreclosure law 4-6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Charlotte Hall library, routes 5 and 6, Charlotte Hall. The event is open to the public and is intended to provide a basic understanding of the foreclosure process and tips to prevent foreclosure in Maryland. Call 301-932-6661.

Indian Head Community Activities Committee will meet 6-9 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Indian Head Senior Center, 100 Cornwallis Square. Call 301-743-5511 or 301-753-6633.

Charles County Board of Education member Jennifer S. Abell will hold a question-and-answer session for interested residents the third Thursday of each month from 6-8:30 p.m., including Dec. 18, at Unique Sports Academy, 109 Post Office Road, Waldorf. Call Abell at 301-659-4112.
