The St. Mary's County public school system will be closed on Monday, Dec. 21, and Tuesday, Dec. 22 because of the weekend's snowfall. This means students will not to return to school until after Christmas and New Year's. The winter break for the county school was already scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Dec. 23. Schools will reopen Jan. 4. On Sunday, Dec. 20, the county landfill and trash convenience centers were closed. The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for St. Mary's County and the immediate region from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and the snow began falling Friday evening. Storm totals in St. Mary's ranged from 4 inches in Ridge to 14.5 inches in Hollywood. Totals were much higher to the north and west.
