Sheriff's officers have solved four unrelated burglaries, from a Dec. 16 break-in at a Waldorf buffet to the thefts of a crossbow and guns in La Plata, according to police.
Eight people were arrested in connection with the crimes, reported the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
A laptop, designer purse, cash and alcohol were stolen during a Nov. 29 break-in at the Hong Kong Buffet in Waldorf, according to police.
The intruder broke a rear door to enter the business at 3331 Plaza Way, according to police. Detective C. Wimberly tracked down information about the stolen items and linked Jerrell Tibbs and Omar Jamal Brooks to the burglary, police reported. Brooks, 23, of Waldorf, was arrested Dec. 12, and Wimberly arrested Tibbs, 23, of Waldorf on Dec. 16.
Both men were charged with second-degree burglary.
Three burglars shattered the front door of the Berry Country Market in Waldorf to enter the business Dec. 11. At 11:40 p.m., someone called police to report the crime at 7485 Bensville Road.
When officers, arrived, they discovered the broken door and found the intruders had run away.
Officers with police dogs started searching the area, and within several minutes, detective C. Shankster saw all three burglars hiding in tall grass on the front lawn of a nearby house, according to police.
Officers walked over to the suspects and reportedly discovered cigarettes, beer and butane lighters that were stolen during the break-in.
After further investigation, officers connected the suspects to vandalism at Bensville Park, where three windows and two fog lights were broken at a concession stand, according to police.
Christopher Ross Aylor, 18, of Bel Alton, and two 15-year-old boys, both of White Plains, were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, destruction of property and theft.
Police went to the 2300 block of Tacoma Place in Waldorf at 1:15 p.m. Dec. 10 after hearing that two masked men were breaking into a home.
A witness described the suspects and their vehicle, and sheriff's officers later saw the car leaving the area, according to police. The suspects fled when officers tried to stop the car, leading police on a chase that ended on Gardner Road, the report stated. Once there, the driver reportedly lost control of the car and struck another vehicle.
Burglary tools were found in the car, and officers learned one of the men had an open warrant.
The two suspects, a 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, both of Suitland, were apprehended and face multiple charges. Their names are not being released pending the conclusion of a police investigation.
Detective J. Elliott arrested a La Plata man Dec. 7 in connection with the thefts of a crossbow, long guns and other items during a burglary, according to police.
The La Plata break-in happened Nov. 6, and during the initial investigation, Officer R. Bagley obtained latent fingerprints from the scene, which were analyzed and linked to Robert Hector Becker, 21, police said.
Becker was charged with burglary.
