Mentoring program to host annual breakfast

Friday, Dec. 25, 2009

The Calvert County Mentoring Partnership is hosting its fifth annual National Mentoring Month Breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Calvert Pines Senior Center in Prince Frederick. Jim Hitchcock, owner of Southern Maryland Auto & Insane Exhaust and a previous Job Shadow Day host, will be the honorary chair at this free networking event. The breakfast will feature highlights from successful mentoring programs, testimonials from local mentors and information on how to get involved. Individuals, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith communities and local nonprofit organizations can all play a part in increasing the number of mentors in Calvert County.

The Mentoring Breakfast is held in observance of National Mentoring Month 2010, a month-long campaign dedicated to recruiting caring mentors for America's youth. Research has shown that mentorship can play a powerful role in reducing drug abuse and youth violence, while greatly enhancing a young person's prospects for leading a healthy and productive life, according to a press release from the Calvert County Mentoring Partnership. Calvert County is rich in opportunities for young people to become involved with a mentor who cares about their well-being. An organization offering a mentoring program can be featured at a booth at the Mentoring Breakfast. E-mail Nadine Happell at nhappell@gscnc.org for more information.

To RSVP for the breakfast, or to sponsor the event on behalf of a business or organization, contact Joyner at the Calvert County Family Network at 410-414-5997, or by e-mail at joynerlr@co.cal.md.us.
