Senior’s holiday brightened by So. Md. Realtors

The Southern Maryland Association of Realtors wrapped up its annual Secret Santa for Seniors project last month, according to a press release. These seniors receive little or no visitors throughout the year. “Wish lists” are obtained by members of SMAR’s Community Relations Committee by working directly with representatives from local nursing facilities. Some items requested include CD’s, books, jewelry, winter clothing and of course, chocolate! “We have a fabulously fierce committee who works hard each year to make sure no one gets left out,” said Terri Davis-Herbert, 2019 chair of the Community Relations Committee, in the release. “We were happy to help 175 seniors in eight different locations across Southern Maryland have a merrier holiday season. Thank you to our Realtors, Affiliates and members of the public who helped us make this happen.”

SCORE announces 2019 workshops, marketing series

The Southern Maryland Chapter of SCORE has announced its 2019 program of over 20 business development workshops, including a new series focused on marketing, according to a press release.

The 2019 program kicked off on Jan. 17 with a full-day workshop: Starting a Business … (and should you?). This workshop features several business professionals — a CPA, an attorney, a business insurance expert, and others — discussing the “must knows” if one is contemplating starting a business.

New for 2019 is a four-session series focused on marketing. The series — scheduled for Saturday mornings to be convenient for those currently in business — begins Feb. 9 with Create Your Brand … Before Your Marketing. Subsequent sessions are set for March 23 (Creating a Marketing Strategy that gets Results), April 27 (Insights & Actions for an Impactful Website) and May 18 (The “Must Knows” in Social and Digital Marketing).

All sessions will be held at Anne Arundel Community College, Arnold campus, the press release states.

In announcing the 2019 program, Maureen Edwards, head of the Chapter’s Workshop Program, noted in the release: “Over 500 people took advantage of SCORE’s local workshops and conferences this past year. This updated program reflects the requests and needs of the local entrepreneurial community, and will allow us to bring even more value to them. We are especially excited about our new Marketing series; we’ve seen strong response to recent marketing workshops and have expanded our offering in response. Because marketing is so critical to business success, we are encouraging everyone to take all four workshops in the series by offering a discount — the complete series for the regular price of three workshops. And with the Saturday schedule, we have made it convenient for participants to attend without taking time out of a normal business day.”

Further information about all SCORE workshops, along with registration details, can be found on the SCORE web site: https://somd.score.org.
