Plan a trip to see ‘Mamma Mia’ at Toby’s Dinner Theater

The St. Mary’s department of aging and human services will host a trip to Toby’s Dinner Theater on Wednesday, Aug. 7, to see “Mamma Mia.” Fall in love with this feel good story of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads. The cost of this trip is $98 and covers ticket to the show, lunch buffet, transportation on a motor coach, driver gratuity and snacks for the return trip. The bus will depart from the Garvey center at 8 a.m. and the Northern center at 8:45 a.m. and will return at approximately 5:15 p.m. to Northern and 5:45 p.m. to Garvey. Nutrition counseling presentation planned

Come join for nutrition counseling and education with Donna Taggert at the Garvey Senior Activity Center. Have lunch with the band at Garvey center

Come join at the Garvey Senior Activity Center on Wednesday, June 19, at noon and enjoy the musical stylings of the local Bushmill Band. They have performed all over the county including Cracker Barrel and Riverfest concerts. Their music will get toes tapping and hands clapping. Lunch includes roast turkey and gravy. ‘Safety for Seniors’ presentation slated

Do you have a personal safety plan? Whether it is a physical safety while out and about or cyber safety while at home, it is important to know how to limit risk and what to do in case an incident occurs. Come to the Northern Senior Activity Center on Thursday, June 20, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and participate in the Safety for Seniors presentation. The presentation will be led by Harold Tafe, who has been involved in law enforcement and private/corporate security for 45 years. Lunchtime show planned

Join for lunch and laughter as the Garvey Readers Theatre entertains at the Garvey center on Wednesday, June 26, at noon with the show “High School Reunion.” Watch what happens as cantankerous 101-year-old Patrick celebrates his 83rd reunion. Then, “School for Wives” will show what happens when four former wives of the same man get together each year for lunch. One can only imagine the comments. The menu will include tossed salad with dressing, beef-a-roni and collard greens. Cost for the meal is $6 for those younger than 60 and a donation for those 60 and older. Bocce ball season to start later this month

Loffler Senior Activity Center will be hosting a summer season of bocce ball on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. The starting date will be June 27. To be a part of it, call 301-737-5670, ext.71658, to sign up or get more information. There is no cost to participate.

Insurance seminars planned at senior centers

Patricia Dorn from the Maryland Insurance Administration will be at each of the senior activity centers to talk about the state agency that ensures fair insurance practices. Make silk scarves at Northern

Create not one, but two custom dyed scarves perfect to accessorize a summer wardrobe. Silk painting artist Terry Tabor will guide a class in dyeing one square and one long silk scarf using a variety of colors through different techniques. The cost is $35 and includes all materials. Gloves and aprons will be provided but appropriate clothing should be worn. For the purpose of ordering supplies, signups will close on June 27. Celebrate with the grandkids

The Midsummer Celebration will be held at the Loffler Senior Activity Center on Wednesday, July 17, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. This party is for seniors and their grandchildren to celebrate together. It features a sundae bar, karaoke, as well as opportunities to be creative. Cost is $5 for adults and free for children age 12 and under (maximum five children per adult). Luau tickets now available

The Loffler Luau, one of the most memorable summer traditions, is coming up on July 25. Tickets are available now for $10. Dance to the music of favorite DJ Mean Gene, enjoy a feast fit for a tropical island party and wear your favorite tropical garb (the center will supply the lei).
