New Hope to hold community day Sept. 28

Pisgah Seventh-Day Adventist to hold community health fair Sept. 28

Sacred Heart Catholic Church to hold country dinner Sept. 29

Sacred Heart Catholic Church will hold a “country fixin’s dinner” from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 201 St. Mary’s Ave. in La Plata. The buffet is all you can eat, dine-in only, and includes fried chicken (gluten free upon request), pulled port, crab balls, green beans, parsley potatoes, corn pudding and more. The cost is $25 for adults, $10 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children under age 6. There will also be drive through and carryout dinners available, including four pieces of fried chicken, pulled pork, green beans, parsley potatoes, cole slaw and a roll or eight pieces of fried chicken and four rolls, for $16 each. Mount Sinai AME Church, in collaboration with the Interfaith Partners of the Chesapeake, are looking for young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 for paid internships. Applicants must be seeking green careers in fields such as environmental science, oceanography and agriculture. Participants will work full time at selected host sites across Maryland and receive extensive leadership and professional development training as well as a paid stipend funded through the Chesapeake Bay Trust. The Pisgah Seventh-day Adventist Church, at 5830 Bryans Road, announced that a prayer mailbox has been placed at the edge of the property for anyone with a prayer request. A bench is there and all are welcome to sit, meditate and/or drop a request to be prayed for. Requests will be added to the church’s 6 a.m. prayer line for daily prayer as well. The box will be checked often during the week.
