A fatal accident in the early morning hours on Thursday killed 47-year-old Timothy Markin of Silver Spring.
According to a Maryland State Police press release, officers responded to a reported two-car accident on Leonardtown Road in the Huckleberry Road area of Bryantown at approximately 1:52 a.m. The preliminary investigation revealed 57-year-old Mark Latson of Hughesville was driving a Mercedes-Benz southbound in the divided highway’s northbound lanes. Latson collided head-on with Markin, who was driving a 2008 Camry northbound. Markin was pronounced dead at the scene, and Latson was taken to University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center for treatment, the release states.
This accident marks the third fatal traffic incident in Charles County this week. The Maryland Independent previously reported that a pedestrian, 83-year-old Francis Irby Bailey of Port Tobacco, was struck and killed by a vehicle around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday night. Later on the same night, 23-year-old Kyle Joseph Compton of Brandywine was killed in a single-car accident on Turkey Hill Road in White Plains after his vehicle left the roadway for as-yet unknown reasons.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the Thursday morning crash, according to the press release. Cpl. J. Zimmerman of the MSP is investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call 301-392-1231.
