My family just learned that their practice of collecting and saving plastic bags for recycling is now a waste of time. Our local transfer station told us to just put them in the trash.
I assume that this is the result of the tariff wars between the U.S. and China, because 90% of our recycled waste went to China. In the long run this could be an opportunity for us to get on the right track.
We know that 15 mega ships produce more pollution than all the autos on the planet and that putting trash in landfills produces methane. I do not want to think about what burning this stuff does to us.
This is an opportunity for this country to keep our trash here and make the same stuff out of it that the workers in China did. We have thousands of people in rural America that need jobs and we should build factories powered with solar panels to produce products like deck boards, picnic tables and other stuff that China makes with no ships needed.
If this country had more skin in the game it could make decisions to improve how we package things so they could be recycled. If we can now recycle massive rockets by landing them on offshore barges we surely can recycle our trash, reduce pollution and create jobs. We could use this response to teach China to not mess with good old USA.
