Soccer charity event to be held

A soccer charity event to benefit the Lewy Body Dementia Association will be held June 15 at North Point High School.

Gates open at 1:30 p.m. for the 3 p.m. kickoff. 

The cost is $5 per ticket with all proceeds going to LBDA to support people with LBD, their families and their caregivers. LBDA promotes scientific advances and seeks to educate the community of dementia through online support groups, social media and brochures.

Sierra Club to hold weekly wander hikes

Southern Maryland Sierra Club will host its weekly wander events on Wednesdays during the summer.

The events are scheduled for June 19 at Gilbert Run Park in Dentsville, June 26 at Elm's Beach Park in Lexington Park, July 3 at Chancellor's Run Regional Park in Great Mills, July 10 at Fifth District Park in Mechanicsville, July 17 at Dorsey Park in Leonardtown, July 24 at Salem State Forest in California, July 31 at Lancaster Park in Lexington Park, Aug. 7 at Pisgah Park in La Plata, Aug. 14 at Baggett Park in Mechanicsville, Aug. 21 at Jefferson Patterson Park in St. Leonard and Aug. 28 at Newtowne Neck State Park in Leonardtown.

Those interested should meet at 10 a.m. at the trailhead (or playground if there is one), then a kid-paced hike around the park will begin at 10:15 a.m.

These events are free and all ages and abilities are welcome.

Southern Maryland Amateur tournament looking for golfers

The Southern Maryland Amateur Invitational Golf Tournament will be held June 28 to 30 at Breton Bay Golf and Country Club in Leonardtown.

The tournament, which is open to male amateur golfers, is a 54-hole stroke play event with four divisions: overall championship division, senior division (must have reached 55th birthday by June 15), super senior division (must have reached 65th birthday by June 15) and junior division (for golfers 18 and younger).

The cost is $125 for juniors, $175 for Breton Bay members and $225 for all others. Practice rounds, which cost $35, are available all day June 17, 18 and 20 and after 2 p.m. June 22 and 23. Call the pro shop at 301-475-2300 to make a tee time.
