Playground Impact Day

The Nu Zeta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Soroity beautified the Francis and Gladys Simmons Park in Indian Head on June 1.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Nu Zeta Omega Chapter, adopted the Francis and Gladys Simmons Park in partnership with the Town of Indian Head to help maintain and beautify the public space.

On June 1, chapter members held a Playground Impact Day to repaint the playground equipment, stain the picnic tables, plant flowers and pick up litter to ensure the grounds remaine clean.

Town Councilman Curtis Smith officially dedicated the park and recognized the chapter as a sponsor. In conjunction with the annual cleaning, the chapter invited the community to free hot dogs, drinks, snack packs, blood pressure screenings and voter registration. Jacqueline Gray chaired the event, and Denise Barnes is president of the sorority chapter.
