Tyrone C. Claggett, 31, of Prince Frederick was released from St. Mary’s County jail on a $3,500 unsecured bond following his arrest earlier this month on charging papers alleging he took a woman’s car in Lexington Park and damaged the vehicle.

Police spotted the Chrysler 200 repeatedly swerving on Route 235 on the afternoon of Aug. 5 and followed the vehicle to a parking lot along South Shangri-La Drive, the address of the car’s owner, Kiersten Faye Nutter, according to a statement of probable cause filed by Trooper Michael Posch of the Maryland State Police.

During the investigation, the car’s owner told police that she had not given the suspect permission to use the vehicle, court papers state, and “she did notice scratches to the front driver’s side fender [that] had not been there.”

The suspect told police the car owner’s brother “had given him permission to drive the vehicle,” according to the charging papers.
