New COVID-19 test site open

A new COVID-19 testing site is open at Dunkirk District Park, located at 10750 Southern Maryland Boulevard in Dunkirk. The testing site is independently operated by First Call Medical Center and will provide same-day, walk-up COVID-19 rapid, polymerase chain reaction and antigen testing in Calvert County. Testing will be available at the site every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To find information on Calvert County Government services online, go to www.CalvertCountyMd.gov.

Police board topic of public meeting

The Calvert County Office of the County Attorney, on behalf of the county commissioners, will hold a public town hall meeting on Dec. 9 from 7-9 p.m. to receive public input on a revised draft resolution regarding the creation of a Calvert County Police Accountability Board. The meeting will be held at the Calvert Pines Senior Center at 450 West Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick. The public may attend either in person or virtually through Zoom at www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/PABTownHall. Participants may also dial in by phone.

Citizens are encouraged to review the revised draft resolution and additional information, available online when you go to www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/PAB. The revised draft was created based on public feedback received as of Oct. 17.

Parks and recreation plans meeting

The Calvert County Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a public meeting to receive input for the planning and construction of the new Harriet E. Brown Community Center. The meeting will be held in person on Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Calvert Pines Senior Center, located at 450 West Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick. The meeting will be held as a continuation of the planning process for a new community center building on Fairground Road to replace the existing facility on Dares Beach Road.

Citizens are invited to attend to ask questions and provide input on the proposed center’s amenities, outdoor space, activities and more. The presentation will show two conceptual site plans, floorplans and renderings as well as results of a public survey conducted earlier this year. Funding strategies will also be discussed.
